The formula
Without interest it is a division: what is missing over the months. With interest it applies the annuity formula, which spreads what is still missing after letting what you already have grow.
Several goals at once
The trip, the buffer and the flat deposit do not compete if each has its own monthly number. Add them up and compare with what you can save. If it does not fit, move dates, not goals.
Goals under a year
Over the short term the return barely counts. Enter zero and do not risk money you need on a fixed date.
If the return is not guaranteed, use the figure without a return so you do not come up short.
Frequently asked questions
What if I already have more than I need?
The result is zero per month. You can reassign that saving to another goal.
Why is the number with interest lower?
Because part of the target is covered by the return on what you accumulate. The more months, the bigger the difference.
How do I count the months?
From next month to the month you need the money, both included.
Can I use it for a flat deposit?
Yes. Remember the deposit is usually 20% of the price plus roughly 10% of taxes and fees.
Does the deposit go in at the start or end of the month?
At the end, after the month's interest.
