What modelo 130 is and how it is calculated
Modelo 130 is the quarterly advance on income tax that an autónomo under direct assessment pays. Each quarter you pay on account 20% of what you have earned so far in the year, and the following year's tax return settles the difference. The hard part is not the percentage, it is that the calculation is cumulative, not quarterly.

Who has to file it
Autónomos under direct assessment, normal or simplified, carrying out an economic activity. There is one important exception: if in the previous year at least 70% of your professional income had withholding applied, you are not obliged to file. That covers many professionals who only invoice companies. If you invoice individuals, you almost certainly file it.
The cumulative logic
Modelo 130 does not look at the quarter. It looks at the year from 1 January to the last day of the quarter. You calculate cumulative profit, apply 20% and subtract everything you have already advanced: the previous quarters' payments and the withholdings applied to you. That is why a poor third quarter can come out at zero even if the first was excellent.
Boxes 01 to 03: income, expenses and profit
Box 01 holds computable income for the year to date. Box 02 holds deductible expenses for the same period, including the autónomo quota and, under the simplified method, the 5% hard-to-justify allowance. Box 03 is the difference: cumulative net profit.
Box 04: the 20%
It is 20% of box 03. If profit is negative, box 04 is zero. There is no negative payment: a loss-making quarter refunds nothing, it only reduces what you accumulate.
Boxes 05 and 06: what you already advanced
Box 05 holds the instalments paid in previous quarters of the same year, net of reductions. Box 06 holds the withholdings and payments on account your clients applied over the year to date. Both are subtracted from box 04.
Box 07 and box 13: result and reduction
Box 07 is 04 minus 05 minus 06. If positive, that is what you owe before deductions. Box 13 is the article 110.3.c reduction: if the previous year's net profit was 12,000 € or less, you can subtract up to 100 € per quarter, in bands that fall as that profit rises. It is based on the previous year, not the current one.
Box 16: main residence
If you are entitled to the deduction for investment in your main residence (purchased before 2013) and your profit does not exceed a certain limit, you can subtract 2% of profit capped at 660.14 € per quarter. Very few people can use this box today, but it exists.
Negative results and how they carry forward
If a quarter's result is negative, you pay nothing and the amount stays available to deduct in the following quarters of the same year. It goes in box 15. If you do not carry it forward, you overpay and recover it on the annual return, a year later.
How Fider calculates it
Fider adds income and deductible expenses from the freelance wallet since January, applies 20%, subtracts previous payments and withholdings, and computes the reduction using the previous year's profit you provide. The result is a draft to review with your advisor. Fider does not file the form.
Frequently asked questions
Am I obliged to file modelo 130?
Yes if you are under direct assessment, unless at least 70% of your professional income in the previous year had withholding applied. In that case you may skip it.
Is the 20% calculated on the quarter or on the year?
On cumulative profit for the year up to the end of the quarter. Previous payments and withholdings are then subtracted, so each quarter's amount can vary a lot.
What happens if the result is negative?
You pay nothing and the negative amount carries forward to the following quarters of the same year through box 15.
What is the 100 € reduction?
An article 110.3.c reduction for autónomos whose previous-year net profit was 12,000 € or less. It runs from 100 € down to 25 € per quarter by band.
Are the withholdings on my invoices subtracted?
Yes, in box 06. If you invoice companies with 15% withholding, much of the 20% is already advanced and the 130 comes out low or at zero.
When is it filed?
From the 1st to the 20th of April, July and October, and from the 1st to the 30th of January for the fourth quarter.
Does Fider file modelo 130?
No. Fider produces a box-by-box draft for you to review with your advisor and file on the AEAT website.
